Having an awesome teacher backpack can be a gamechanger for busy teachers on the move. This post will compare the 7 best teacher backpacks to help you choose your perfect bag!

When I taught in a traditional classroom, I loved having a reliable teacher backpack to stay organized as I traveled to and from school. Now that I teach online while traveling, I use a backpack to tame and transport keep my entire remote classroom.

Short on time? Check out my favorite teacher backpack now!

What qualities to look for in the best teacher backpack

What you look for in a teacher backpack will entirely depend on your teaching situation. That said, no matter what your classroom and commute look like, teacher backpacks will likely be put through their paces.

When choosing a teacher backpack, look for one that is strong enough to endure the demands of a busy workday, comfortable enough for long-term wear (especially if you plan to teach and travel), and offers some way to organize your teaching supplies.

Strength

Backpacks for teachers should be strong and made of durable fabric. To make sure a backpack is of high quality before purchasing, I always scroll through a few pages of reviews on Amazon to make sure there aren’t glaring durability issues.

Comfort

Chances are you’ll be spending a lot of time wearing your teacher backpack, so you should get one that’s comfortable. I look for thick, padded shoulder straps as well as padding along the part of the backpack that touches my back.

For multiple carrying options, I also like backpacks that have handbag straps as well as adjustable shoulder straps. Some of the options below will have that feature.

Well-Organized

No one likes to fumble around their backpack looking for a pen or tissue or that one really important sticky note. Having a backpack with organizational elements will help you feel more put-together and keep essential teacher tools within easy reach.

Since most teachers carry a laptop these days, it’s also nice to have a backpack with a designated laptop sleeve.

Not only does this keep your laptop safe with extra padding, but it’s also more comfortable to carry heavier items close to your back where they don’t flop around.

I don’t personally use all these backpacks (that would be a little ridiculous), but these were the top ones I was considering when I purchased my own. Hopefully, this helps make your decision a bit easier! 🙂

Himawari Laptop Backpack

The Himawari Laptop Backpack is very similar to the backpack I’m currently using as my traveling teacher bag and personal item. I love the look of this backpack and it has an ultra-wide top opening which is great for finding things inside.

In addition to the massive main compartment, there are two water bottle pockets on the sides and an exterior pocket. They make a basic black backpack for teachers as well as other stylish colors.

This bag is super lightweight and can hold an unbelievable number of items. I’ve been able to pack mine to the brim and it’s still easy to carry by the handles or backpack straps.

Pros:

  • Stylish design and many colors
  • Internal laptop compartment
  • Lightweight, comfortable to wear
  • Can choose between regular or large
  • Large capacity without looking bulky
  • Also makes a great travel backpack
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Sticking zippers for some users

Lekesky Laptop Backpack

This stylish Lekesky Teacher Backpack is designed for carrying your laptop and other valuables comfortably.

Inside, it has a padded laptop compartment, a document sleeve, and two side pockets. Because there is wire in the top closure, it opens wide so you can access everything inside easily.

The fabric is water-resistant and the bag is spacious, making this a great option for teachers.

Pro:

  • 24L capacity
  • Wide open top design for easy access
  • Padded laptop sleeve
  • tons of pockets for organization
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • No zipper pockets inside
  • No padding on the bottom of bag so it can cause slouching

Matein Travel / Laptop Backpack

This Matein backpack is one of the best backpacks for teachers who travel and for teachers who need lots of organization.

The Matein Backpack has a built-in external USB port (you must provide your own charging bank though), a large padded laptop compartment, and tons of pockets to stay organized.

It even has an anti-theft pocket along the back so that you can keep important items close to your body while wearing. The bag is water-resistant and has excellent reviews on Amazon. This is a good one to consider if you plan to teach abroad or online while traveling.

Pro:

  • Excellent reviews on Amazon
  • Many organizational pockets
  • Large padded laptop pocket
  • External USB Port
  • Affordable

Con:

  • Organizational elements add weight making this a heavier backpack when empty
  • Not designed for very rough usage

Minimalist teachers, this one is for you! These Simple Modern Legacy Backpacks are super sleek, simple, and functional. They are clean on the outside and full of organizational features on the inside.

At 25L, this backpack is quite large. It has a padded laptop sleeve, a tablet sleeve, and several other pockets and pouches for whatever else you might need throughout your busy school day.

Pros:

  • Excellent customer reviews on amazon
  • Sleek, minimalist design
  • Comes in fun different colors
  • Has padded laptop sleeve, tablet sleeve, and tons of other pockets
  • Affordable
